by Hazar Masri, young leader
Hazar Masri is an Arab living in Israel. A former camper, she worked as a young leader in 2006, sharing her experience and wisdom with new participants. Hazar plans to return to Creativity for Peace camp in 2007.
Since 2004, when I joined the Creativity for Peace family, I’ve felt something start to move, to light my way of living and thinking. Changes started to happen … good changes, for sure.
I started to know more and more about myself, my needs, environment, and about living in a conflict which seemed very normal, instead of strange and dangerous. To look at myself after two years starting as a camper and now as a young leader and to see the differences in me. Before I never thought about peace or even getting to know my enemy better and close. But now I can see the peace within them. The girls who have just come back from camp are really successful peacemakers; they are wonderful. I can tell that we are doing an extraordinary job and that peace is coming sooner or later.
I’ve no words to describe how this has influenced me. Simply it is really great, a gift from God, to meet the people who were considered an enemy.
