Rachel’s Corner

Posted by CreativityForPeace on June 27th, 2007

Our founder and executive director, Rachel Kaufman, is healing from a recent medical problem. As she recovers, her heart remains with Creativity for Peace. In more than 40 years as a social activist, this is Rachel’s life work.

But the power of what she has initiated, expressed so eloquently by the young women who have attended seven previous camp sessions, is shared by hundreds of others. Our donors, volunteers, staff in the Middle East and in the U.S., and our Board of Directors all are passionately committed to Creativity for Peace’s peacemaking mission and to the impact of compassionate dialogue, artmaking, and having fun together.

Since the first camp in 2003, conversations with participants have left me in awe of the girls’ fearless commitment to changing the world - despite what they have been taught, despite disapproval from friends and family, and despite history. Their willingness to meld action and idealism outshines many adults. This quality, as well as their intelligence and spirit, embody and inspire great hope. They are the leaders of the future Middle East - women who will carry the message of peace to their families, co-workers, and communities.

Please know that your support of our work helps to shine a light in a world that often feels laden with darkness.

There is a need for everyone to put all their energy into uniting the relationship between the Palestinians and the Jews. Each people has the right to live in peace, security, and far from war and oppression.

Scholarship Program

Posted by CreativityForPeace on June 20th, 2007

In addition to our year-round program of dialogue and artmaking, Creativity for Peace awards university scholarships to young women from the Middle East.

Ameera is attending the American Arab University in Palestine, S. is a pre-med student at El-Azhar University in Gaza, and Inas continues her M.B.A. studies at North Park University in Chicago.

Thank you to the donors who are supporting the continued education of these young women - the future leaders of their communities.

If you are interested in contributing, please contact us. Scholarship monies may be used for education in the United States, Palestine, and Israel.

Because of Us, Peace Will Come

by Hazar Masri, young leader

Hazar Masri is an Arab living in Israel. A former camper, she worked as a young leader in 2006, sharing her experience and wisdom with new participants. Hazar plans to return to Creativity for Peace camp in 2007.

Since 2004, when I joined the Creativity for Peace family, I’ve felt something start to move, to light my way of living and thinking. Changes started to happen … good changes, for sure.

I started to know more and more about myself, my needs, environment, and about living in a conflict which seemed very normal, instead of strange and dangerous. To look at myself after two years starting as a camper and now as a young leader and to see the differences in me. Before I never thought about peace or even getting to know my enemy better and close. But now I can see the peace within them. The girls who have just come back from camp are really successful peacemakers; they are wonderful. I can tell that we are doing an extraordinary job and that peace is coming sooner or later.

I’ve no words to describe how this has influenced me. Simply it is really great, a gift from God, to meet the people who were considered an enemy.
