July and August
In a collaborative effort between Creativity for Peace and Project Life Stories, our 2005 campers integrated autobiographical writing into the summer program. Each girl had the opportunity to publicly share excerpts from her life story on stage, as personal monologues in front of several hundred people.
It was an incredibly empowering experience for everyone.
The process of writing through personal experiences allowed the girls to access and share intimate stories based on their feelings, what they all have in common and their strength and vulnerability as human beings, living in difficult times.
After listening to one another share the details of their lives and feelings, the girls expressed how they were unable to see each other as the enemy, recognizing that they had all experienced the terror of violence and loss. They experienced each other as young women and saw the other through the powerful perspective of the human story.
